committee. Develop funding to establish the Japantown Task Force,
Inc. as an independent 501(c) 3 -create a general operating
fund with a target of $50,000 by June 2003. Develop a short-term
(3 months to 1 year) and long-range (3-5 years) fund development
plan - incorporate planned giving, stock donations and land/home
& Business Development
||Works with Communications
Committee to develop a comprehensive Japantown marketing plan
to attract business, new businesses and additional visitors
to Japantown. Investigate the opportunity for Japantown to be
considered a "Business Improvement District" (BID),
and other models, so that the Japantown business community has
access to tax increment money. Work with City Departments, Japanese
Consulate General's office, Japantown Merchat's Association,
Asian Professional Associations, and Tourist Bureaus abroad
and in the Bay Area to bring commerce to Japantown. Facilitate
meetings with prospective developers and entrepreneurs to involve
them in the Japantown Community Plan -so that the Japantown
Community Plan is incorporated into new business and development
plans. Adopt one Japantown business and share information regularly
about the Japantown Task Force, Inc., the JTF Community Plan,
and conduct business with them as a "Task Force" member.
||Work with City Departments,
Japantown residents, businesses, community based organizations,
property owners and visitors to promote a healthy and safe Japantown.
Monitor and report unsafe and unhealthy conditions in Japantown.
Coordinate health and safety solutions with the City Departments
and commuity at-large. Promote a pedestrian friendly neighborhood.
||Develop a comprehensive
Japantown marketing plan to attract business, new businesses
and additional visitors to Japantown. Utilize culturally and
linguistically specific electronic and print media outlets to
advertise Japantown and Japantown events. publicize, maintain,
develop and keep current the Japantown Task Force, Inc. website:
www.jtowntaskforce.org. Produce the Japantown Task Force, Inc.
bilingual (English/Japanese) newsletter quarterly (Winter, Spring,
Summer, Fall) and develop an advertising base to support it.
Participate in community activities to promote the goals of
the Japantown Task Force, Inc. (Japantown Community Plan).
and Historical Preservation
||Works with City Planning
Department and Landmark Preservation Advisory Board to ensure
appropriate community education and inclusion in the decision-making
process regarding historical and landmark designations. Work
with traditional and contemporary Japanese, Korean and Chinese
arts and cultural organizations to create vehicles in Japantown
to preserve arts and culture. Identify opportunities with Federal,
State and City governments to preserve Japantown's culture and
history (e.g. Senate Bill 307, Proposition 40). Create language
that describes "Cultural Preservation."
